COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri men’s basketball railed for an 83-72 victory over Jacksonville State Tuesday night inside Mizzou Arena before 8,515 spectators. The Tigers move to 10-1 on the season following the result and extend their win streak to 10 straight.
Overall, the 10-straight wins is tied for the nation’s third-longest and the program’s longest since the 2013-14 season.
MIZZOU LEADERS
Graduate Jacob Crews led the offense for Mizzou with a season-high 19 points, shooting 6-for-10 from the field in the game and 6-9 from 3-point range.
Junior Mark Mitchell added 18 points and also added six rebounds and a career-best six assists as well as two steals and three blocks in the victory.
Sophomore Trent Pierce finished the game with 12 points off the bench, putting him in double figures for the second-straight game, while also adding four rebounds.
GAME RECAP
Missouri found itself down early as Jacksonville State scored the first seven points of the game before Mizzou quickly pulled back. After starting the game by making three of its first 15 shots, the Tigers made 11 of their next 14 to grab a 41-37 advantage. However, a late triple led to Mizzou taking just a one-point lead into the break, 41-40.
After a back-forth start to the second half, Jacksonville State would take a 48-47 lead into the first media timeout. The Gamecocks would push their advantage to four, 63-59, before a late push secured the win for Mizzou.
The Tigers took advantage of a 21-5 spurt over the next 6:36 to move in front by double digits, 80-68. Crews led a 13-0 run spurt to finish the run, connecting on three triples to lead the team. The Mizzou defense also raised its level by holding JSU to just 2-of-11 shooting during the stretch (18.2%).
The Tigers would finish off the 11-point win for their 10-straight victory overall.
TEAM STATS
The Tigers shot 50.0 percent in the winning effort including a 12-of-25 performance from 3-point range (48 percent). Mizzou also held the Gamecocks to 45.0 percent from the field and just 37.9 percent in the second half.
Mizzou only committed three turnovers as a team in the contest, the least amount of turnovers the Tigers have committed this season, while turning over Jacksonville State 12 times and scoring 14 points off Gamecock turnovers in the game.
