Men’s Basketball Hosts Eastern Illinois

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri men’s basketball team returns to Mizzou Arena for a midweek matchup against Eastern Illinois, Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. The game is set to be broadcast on SECN+ with Ben Arnet and Mizzou alum, Kevin Puryear, on the call.

MIZZOU HEADLINES

  • Kobe Brown is nearly averaging a double-double for the Tigers with 15.3 points per game and 9.6 boards.
  • He ranks third in the SEC in rebounds per game, 10th in points per game, and fifth in field goal percentage.
  • After a slow start in the Tigers first several games, Amari Davis has shown his potential as a scoring threat for Mizzou.
  • Davis has recorded five-straight games in double-digits, averaging 14.4 points and is shooting .407 on the season – the best clip for a Mizzou guard.
  • The Tigers are 4-1 this season when outrebounding their opponents. Despite the loss to Liberty, Mizzou outrebounded the Flames 36-29.
  • Mizzou has two of the top-12 rebounders in the conference, with Brown and Ronnie DeGray III. DeGray ties for 12th with 6.8 per game and is third in the league with 3.12 offensive boards per game.

THE SERIES

  • Tuesday is the first meeting between the two programs in five years, with Mizzou owning the all-time series, 3-1.
  • Eastern Illinois won the last meeting between the two programs, however, winning 67-64 Dec. 17, 2016.
  • All four meetings have been in Columbia, with three of the four being decided by double-digits.

SCOUTING EASTERN ILLINOIS

  • Eastern Illinois enters Tuesday’s game with two wins under the belt, against Rockford and North Park.
  • The Panthers have two common opponents with Mizzou, both teams the Tigers defeated. Eastern Illinois dropped a 55-45 contest against Northern Illinois last week and was beat out on a last second shot by Central Michigan, 62-61.
  • Kashawn Charles leads the Panthers with 12.6 points per game, while Kejuan Clements is the team’s leading rebounder, averaging 5.6 boards per game. Clements also leads the team and ranks top-50 in the nation with 4.9 assists per game.
  • Eastern Illinois is led by Marty Simmons who is in his first season with the Panthers. Simmons was previously the head coach at Evansville for 11 seasons before joining the staff at Clemson from 2018-21.

UP NEXT

Mizzou faces its largest test of the season, Dec. 11, against No. 8 Kansas in the return of the Hy-Vee Border Showdown. The game will tip at 2:15 p.m. on ESPN.
