Argentina pulled off a dramatic win against France in what’s being called an “instant-classic” World Cup final, clinching victory in a 4-2 penalty shootout.
The win caps Argentine soccer legend Lionel Messi‘s career with a World Cup win, and it further cements him as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
Messi scored two goals, but he was outdone by French superstar Kylian Mbappé, who scored a second-half hat trick and earned the Golden Boot for most goals during the tournament.
Messi was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.
