Mizzou Athletics Receives Anonymous $1M Gift

COLUMBIA, Mo.  – The University of Missouri Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has received a $1M comprehensive gift from an anonymous Columbia family who are life-long Tiger fans with a storied history of supporting the entire athletics program, Mizzou Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced today.

“This Mid-Missouri family has deep roots in Columbia, a tremendous passion for the University, Mizzou Athletics and in particular, our student-athletes,” said Sterk of the department’s eighth, seven- or eight-figure gift received in the current fiscal year. “We are grateful for their continued generosity, love and support of our student-athletes’ pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.

“Our student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom and 10 of our programs have been ranked at some point during this most challenging of years, and I believe Mizzou Athletics enjoys great momentum heading into next year,” he added. “I continue to be humbled by the commitment that families such as this are making to ensure the future success of our entire athletics program. It is truly a great time to be a Tiger.”

Half of the comprehensive gift will go toward the annual scholarship expense for Mizzou student-athletes, while the remaining portion is pledged for the new Football Indoor Practice Facility and the Basketball program.

“Throughout the pandemic, philanthropic fund-raising has been one of the only ways to generate funding for our department,” Sterk said. “Tiger Scholarship Fund donors continue to invest in the future of our student-athletes and the department’s priorities, and we are extremely grateful for their generous support.”
