Mizzou Takes Two-of-Three at Kleberg Bank College Classic

  • After a disappointing opener at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas, last weekend, Mizzou responded nicely with back to back wins over Utah and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
  • In a Saturday (Feb. 22) afternoon matchup against Utah, the Tigers utilized the long ball and outstanding pitching to edge the Utes by one run. Senior DH Peter Zimmermann and redshirt junior 1B Brandt Belk each hammered their first home runs of the 2020 campaign, while junior RHP Konnor Ash (W – 7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 9 K) delivered career-highs in innings pitched and strikeouts.
  • A day later (Feb. 23), Mizzou closed its stay at the 2020 Kleberg Bank College Classic with a victory over the host Islanders. Sophomore LHP Andrew Vail (W – 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K) and freshman RHP Spencer Miles (SV – 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) were electric out of the Tiger bullpen, helping key the Tigers’ comeback win.
  • Belk was fantastic again at the plate, recording his second-straight multi-hit game. The Houston, Texas, native finished his weekend hitting .500 (5-for-10) with 2B, HR and 4 RBI.
