COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (8-13, 1-3 SEC) put together good at-bats, but fell short in its SEC home opener against No. 1 Vanderbilt (17-3, 3-1 SEC), losing 10-2 Thursday evening.
The Tigers grabbed the early lead in the second inning against Vanderbilt starter Kumar Rocker, with senior Chad McDaniel coming home on a Commodore throwing error. Mizzou tallied five base knocks against Rocker, which is the most the preseason All-American has surrendered this season.
Vanderbilt answered with eight runs of its own before the Tigers would score again. Mizzou picked up its second and final run of the game in the sixth inning on a double down the first-base line from redshirt sophomore Luke Mann that scored senior Brandt Belk.

Hear from the Skipper
Head coach Steve Bieser on today’s approach at the plate…
“I thought we had a really good game plan going in, really knew his tendencies and had some pretty good at bats against him. He found his way out of some trouble at times and we couldn’t come up with a big hit, but I felt like we did a pretty decent job against him.”
#MIZ Takeaways
- Junior Tre Morris threw out his fourth attempted base stealer on the season, which is tied for fifth in the SEC with teammate Mike Coletta, among others
- Mann smacked a double into the corner to plate Mizzou’s second run of the game. He extends his team lead with 14 RBI on the season in his third multi-hit game.
- Belk and senior Andrew Keefer each extended their hitting streaks to eight games and five games, respectively.
