Mizzou Falls 13-8 in Midweek at Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – In its first visit to Manhattan since 2011, Mizzou Baseball (12-26) dropped a 13-8 slugfest to Kansas State (24-16) on Tuesday night.

K-State raced out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on the strength of a three-run home run to power the frame. Mizzou struck back in the third, scoring four times to pull within one. Junior Tre Morris delivered a two-out, two-run single in the frame.

The momentum was short-lived, however, as K-State scored three more in the fifth to rebuild an 8-4 lead before making it 10-4 in the fourth. The Tigers did not go away quietly, striking for three runs in the sixth to pull within 10-7. Senior Brandt Belk sparked the inning with a pinch-hit, RBI-double.

The Wildcats scored the next three runs, one in the sixth and two in the seventh, to push the advantage back to six at 13-7. Sophomore Torin Montgomery drove in a run in the top of the ninth on a ground out to provide the final of 13-8.

HEAR FROM THE SKIPPER

Head coach Steve Bieser on midweek loss…

“We didn’t do a lot tonight and it starts on the mound. We’ve got to go out and we’ve got to pitch it better and then we’ve also got to defend better. We gave them six outs in one inning and that’s unacceptable. We’ve just got to have a little more fight”
