Mizzou Has Final Road Test at South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C — The University of Missouri men’s basketball team is set for its final road test of the 2021-22 season, Tuesday evening in Columbia, S.C. Mizzou will take on South Carolina for a 6 p.m. CT tip on ESPNU. Richard Cross and Joe Kleine will have the call, while Mike Kelly and Chris Gervino will have it on Tiger Radio Network.

MIZZOU HEADLINES

• Javon Pickett has been one of the most consistent players in SEC play for Mizzou, averaging 12.7 points per game on 47.8 percent shooting.
• The senior has recorded double-digit scoring efforts in 13-straight conference contests.
• Kobe Brown reached 500 career rebounds in Saturday’s game against LSU, becoming the second active SEC junior to reach the mark and the second Mizzou player to do so by his junior season in the last 25 years.
• Missouri is shooting 42.9 from the floor against conference opponents, ranking seventh in the SEC. The Tigers’ are eighth in FG percentage defense, and one of four teams alongside Auburn, Kentucky and LSU to be top-eight in both categories.
• The Tigers rank sixth nationally in strength of schedule and third in the SEC, bested only by Tennessee and Alabama.
• Missouri is shooting 76.3 percent from the free throw line in SEC play, the second-best in the league.
• This season, Missouri has been 7-2 when both Kobe Brown and Javon Pickett score 10+ points.
• Seven of Mizzou’s last 11 SEC games have been decided by an average of 4.5 points.
• Trevon Brazile’s 38 blocks on the season rank ninth nationally among all freshman. He is averaging 1.6 blocks per game in conference action, ranking third in the SEC.

THE SERIES

• Mizzou leads the all-time series, 8-6, including wins in both meetings last season.
• South Carolina leads the all-time series, 5-3, in Colonial Life Arena but the last four meetings in South Carolina have been split.
• In last years pair of games, Kobe Brown averaged 10 points and five rebounds.

SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA

• Tuesday’s matchup will feature two strong blocking teams, as South Carolina averages 5.0 blocks per contest and Mizzou is averaging four.
• The Gamecocks have three players in the SEC top-20 in blocked shots per game, led by Wildens Leveque who is averaging 0.96 per game.
• Leveque is also the team’s leader with 4.8 rebounds/game.
• South Carolina feeds off the offensive glass, ranking 13^th nationally with 13.14 per game.
• Keyshawn Bryant and Jermaine Cousinard are the Gamecocks leading scorers, as South Carolina is 15-2 when at least one of them records double-digit scoring efforts.
• Couisnard and Erik Stevenson lead the team with 11.5 points per game each.
• South Carolina is 11-4 at home this season and have won the last two in Colonial Life.
