Mizzou Men’s Basketball Tabbed No. 16 in AP Top 25, Earns National Team of the Week Honor

COLUMBIA, MO.– Mizzou Men’s Basketball is ranked No. 16 nationally in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Tigers cracked the Top 25 for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign after improving to 5-0 this past week.

Mizzou’s No. 16 ranking is its highest since being tabbed No. 10 in Week 10 of the 2012-13 season on Jan. 7, 2013. That squad got as high as No. 7 during nonconference play.

Mizzou was also named the March Madness National Team of the Week on Monday after gutting out a win over two-time defending Atlantic Sun champion Liberty, and knocking off No. 6 Illinois, 81-78, to earn Braggin’ Rights for third consecutive year.

With its triumph over No. 21 Oregon in early December, Mizzou already has two wins over ranked nonconference opponents in the same season for the first time since the 2011-12 team finished 30-5. The Tigers’ victory over No. 6 Illinois was their first win against a Top-10 team since downing No. 5 Florida in January of 2014.

Mizzou has won three straight Braggin’ Rights games under head coach Cuonzo Martin, its longest streak in the series since 2009-12. The Tigers are 5-0 to start a season for the 27th time in program history, and the first time since 2013-14.

Mizzou is back in action Friday night at home vs. Prairie View A&M. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network Plus.
