Mizzou Men’s Hoops Signs Green Bay Transfer Amari Davis

COLUMBIA, MO.— Mizzou Men’s Basketball inked transfer guard Amari Davis, head coach Cuonzo Martin announced Thursday. Davis comes from Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he led the Phoenix with 17.1 points per game.

Davis, who just completed his sophomore campaign at Green Bay, will have three years of eligibility remaining at Mizzou. The 6-foot-3 guard, originally from Trotwood, Ohio, was a second-team 2020-21 All-Horizon League selection.

“Amari is a proven scorer and defender who can have an immediate impact in the SEC on both ends of the floor,” Martin said. “His ability to create scoring opportunities and finish at the rim will help us from the jump.”

Davis led Green Bay in scoring (17.1), steals (32) and minutes (34.6) and ranked fourth in the Horizon League in points per game as a sophomore. In 25 games, he scored in double figures 21 times, reaching the 20-point mark on eight occasions. Davis racked up 431 points in those 25 games, exploding for a career-high 35 points on Feb. 27 at Wright State.

“I chose Mizzou because I felt like it was a great opportunity for me here,” Davis said. “I like the basketball culture at Mizzou. Coach Martin is well-known and well-respected, and I knew I could trust him with developing me into a better player.”

As a freshman, Davis was the first player in Green Bay history to be named Horizon League Freshman of the Year. He broke the Phoenix all-time freshman scoring record, surpassing Tony Bennett and finishing with 524 points. Davis averaged 15.9 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game in 33 contests as a true freshman, winning Horizon League Freshman of the Week honors a conference-record 10 times.

Davis is a career 47-percent shooter from the field and 75.1 percent shooter from the foul line, making 80.4 percent of his attempts at the charity stripe in 2020-21. In 54 career games, he’s averaged 3.9 boards, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals to go along with the scoring prowess.

In high school, Davis was named the Ohio Division II State Player of the Year, where he led Trotwood-Madison High School to a State Championship behind a game-high 24 points. Davis led his area in scoring with 30.1 points per game as high school senior.
