Mizzou Softball Freshman Jenna Laird Earns SEC Honor

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 16/18 Mizzou Softball freshman Jenna Laird was named SEC Freshman of the Week for her performance in the Mizzou Tournament this weekend. Laird finished the weekend with eight runs driven in while batting a whopping .636 at the plate.

In the opener vs. Kent State, Laird drove in a career-high six runs. In the first inning, she drove a bases-clearing triple to center, her second triple of the year. In the third inning, the freshman came to the plate and ripped a three-run home run over the right-center field wall.

On Saturday, Laird got the Tigers started against Drake with a two-run single in the first inning to take the lead. She was 2-for-3 in the game while also stealing a base.

Laird again provided a spark in the finale against Drake. In the second inning, she had a bunt single that turned into two runs for Mizzou. The ball was thrown into right field by the pitcher, allowing the two baserunners to score.

The East Meadow, New York native has started all 23 games at shortstop. She is batting .422 with six doubles, two triples, three home runs, 20 runs batted in and three stolen bases. Laird is 13th in the SEC in batting average, tied for 9th in doubles, and tied for 14th in RBIs.
