Mizzou Softball Home for the First Time this Weekend

Mizzou Softball returns home for the first time this season after spending the opening three weeks of the season competing on the road.
The Tigers host Nebraska and Wichita State in the Mizzou Tournament this weekend.
Mizzou has traveled 7,779 land miles over the first three weeks of the season, spanning both the East and West coasts.
The Tigers have opened the season with a 12-5 record, going 9-2 against Power-5 opponents.
This weekend marks a return of the Mizzou-Nebraska rivalry, as both were members of the Big 8 and later Big 12.
Nebraska leads the all-time series 30-53, and claimed victory in the last meeting, a 4-1 win on Feb. 25, 2017.
Mizzou leads the all-time series against Wichita State 22-2, and swept last season’s doubleheader in Kansas.

As part of Mizzou’s 12-5 start to the season, the Tigers have gone 9-2 against teams who are members of a Power-5 conference.
That record is the best of any SEC team through the first three weekends of the season.
The Tigers are tied with No. 1 UCLA (9-0) and No. 2 Washington (9-1) for the most wins over Power-5 programs this season.
Mizzou is fourth in the country in Power-5 winning percentage among teams who have played at least five games against Power-5 opponents.
The 11 games against Power-5 teams is the most of any team in the country.

Under the direction of Larissa Anderson, the Mizzou pitching staff has developed a crop of four newcomers to a strong start to the season.
The duo of Emma Nichols and Eli Daniel are one of seven teammates to rank in the top 50 nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Daniel is 14th in the country with 9.67 strikeouts per walk, while Nichols is 34th with a 7.25 average.
Mizzou’s 3.47 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks 33rd in the country as a staff.
Daniel is also one of four pitchers in the country with at least five wins and three saves this season.
The senior has tied her single-season high for wins this year, matching her five as a sophomore.
The Tigers were the only team in the country to have five different pitchers pick up a win in the first weekend of the season.

Mizzou has utilized the long ball to be the driving force of its offense during the program’s 12-5 start to the season.
The Tigers are tied for seventh in the nation with 22 home runs on the year, and their per game average of 1.44 ranks in the top 20 nationally.

They are one of two pairs of teammates in the Southeastern Conference to both have at least five home runs on the season. Mallory Peyton (7) and Alex Martens (5) of Kentucky are the only other pair of teammates in the conference to have at least five home runs.
Mizzou has posted seven multi-home run games this year.

Despite having only one senior on the roster, Mizzou has displayed the pose to win close games on the season.
The Tigers have gone to extra innings on four occasions through the first three weeks of the season — one shy of matching the total from a season ago.
Mizzou is 3-1 in extra-inning games this season, grabbing wins against Minnesota, Oklahoma State, and Oregon State. The lone loss came on a sacrifice fly against James Madison.
The Tigers are 4-1 in one-run games on the year.
In seven of Mizzou’s 12 wins this season, they have scored the go-ahead run in the final two innings (sixth or seventh in seven inning games, or extra innings).
