Mizzou Starts Road Stretch at Ole Miss

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri men’s basketball team opens back-to-back road games with a midweek contest against Ole Miss, Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. CT. The game is slated to air on ESPNU with Kevin Fitzgerald and Jimmy Dykes on the call. Mike Kelly and Chris Gervino will have the call on Tiger Radio netowkr.

  • Trevon Brazile continues to be a standout player for the Tigers’ as he recorded four blocks against Texas A&M.
  • Brazile ranks 11th nationally among all division 1 freshman with 22 blocks on the season, doing so in just eight games. His 22 blocks also rank seventh among Mizzou freshman all-time in a single-season.
  • Jarron Coleman has come on strong in SEC play for the Tigers, averaging 13.3 points per game and 4.5 rebounds in addition to nearly four assists. Coleman is shooting at a 39.1 clip from the floor and 34.6 from behind the arc against conference opponents.
  • There is no doubt Mizzou has played one of the toughest schedules in the country, with games against Kansas, Illinois, Kentucky and Alabama. The Tigers’ strength of schedule currently ranks 13th in the nation according to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, which is the third strongest in the SEC.
  • As a team, Mizzou has done a much better job limiting its opponents’ shots from deep in conference play. The Tigers’ have allowed SEC teams to only shoot 28.6 percent from three, compared to 36.5 throughout the season.
  • Kobe Brown leads Mizzou in scoring and rebounding, both of which rank top-15 in the SEC. Brown is fourth in the league with 8.6 rebounds per game, good enough for top-50 nationally.

THE SERIES

  • Ole Miss holds the 15-3 lead in the series, with all 18 meetings coming since Mizzou joined the SEC in 2013.
  • Two of the Tigers’ three wins have come since Cuonzo Martin took over the program, including a 71-68 win on the road in 2020.
  • Mizzou played Ole Miss twice last season, with a single-digit loss at home against the Rebels. In the game at Mizzou Arena, Kobe Brown lead the Tigers with 12 points and seven rebounds on 4-of-7 shooting.

SCOUTING OLE MISS                                                                                                                    

  • Ole Miss is coming off a hard-fought game against No. 4 Auburn where the Rebels lead by seven at half.
  • The teams’ lone SEC win came against Mississippi State in Oxford.
  • Jarkel Joiner leads the Rebels with 13.6 points per game but has not played since the teams’ win against Mississippi State on Jan. 8.
  • Nysier Brooks is averaging 8.3 rebounds per game, which ranks fifth in the SEC behind Missouri’s Kobe Brown.
  • As a team, the Rebels are second in the league in three-point field goal defense and sixth in field goal shooting.
  • Ole Miss had a top-25 win earlier this season against Memphis, defeating the Tigers 67-63 but have since gone 3-6.

UP NEXT

Mizzou next heads to Tuscaloosa, to take on Alabama on Jan. 22 at 5 p.m. The game will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, as Missouri took the 92-86 victory at home earlier this month.
