Mizzou Travels to Lynchburg for Tilt Against Liberty

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri men’s basketball team heads on the road for its first true road contest of the 2021-22 season, Thursday, Dec. 2 against Liberty. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT/7 p.m. ET tip off on ESPN+ with Matt Warner and Paul Nazigian on the call.

MIZZOU HEADLINES

  • The Tigers are coming off a Monday game against Paul Quinn where Mizzou won handedly, 91-59.
  • Kobe Brown went off for one of the best performances of his career with a 20-20 performance. Brown’s 23 rebounds were a career high, and the most for any Tiger since 1966.
  • Brown is nearly averaging a double-double with a team-best 15.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. His 9.6 rebounds rank third in the SEC and top-30 nationally.
  • Missouri has a pair of top-15 rebounders in the SEC, with Brown and Ronnie DeGray III. DeGray III ranks 13th overall with 6.71 rebounds/game and is fourth with 3.29 offensive boards per game.
  • Amari Davis recorded 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting against Paul Quinn, marking his fourth-straight game with 14 or more.
  • DeGray III made his first start for Missouri, recording eight rebounds and seven points.
  • The Tigers remain 4-0 this season when outscoring opponents and have averaged 76 points in wins, compared to 60 points in losses.

THE SERIES

  • Thursday marks the second meeting between the two programs in as many years, as Missouri hosted Liberty last season where the Tigers came away with the hard-fought 69-60 victory.
  • Javon Pickett went 4-of-5 for eight points in last year’s meeting, while the Tigers shot 51 percent from the floor.
  • Thursday’s game will be the first all-time meeting in Lynchburg as Mizzou is the first SEC team to play in Liberty Arena.

SCOUTING LIBERTY

  • Liberty is one of 10 NCAA tournament teams from a year ago on Missouri’s 2021-22 schedule.
  • The Flames are coming off its fifth-consecutive 20+ win season.
  • Liberty boasts the second-longest active home win streak, behind Gonzaga, of 39 straight-wins at home.
  • Darius McGhee, the 2021 ASUN Player of the Year, leads the Flames with 18.3 points per game and 2.5 assists per game. McGhee ranks top-15 nationally in 3-point field goal percentage, shooting 50 percent from behind the arc.
  • As a team, Liberty has held opponents to 56.7 points per game which ranks 15th nationally.

Mizzou returns home for a midweek contest against Eastern Illinois, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. before renewing the Kansas rivalry Saturday, Dec. 11 in Lawrence, Kan.
