COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri volleyball team earned the 2024 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT, the AVCA announced Wednesday.
Missouri posted a cumulative 3.50 GPA during the 2023-24 school year, including a 3.45 during the spring semester. This marks the first AVCA Team Academic Award for the Tigers under head coach Dawn Sullivan and the ninth overall award in MU program history.
The award, which was initiated during the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.
More than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs were awarded the distinction Wednesday.
“We are pleased that the record-setting success of the 2023-24 season on the court has extended to the classroom, too, as evidenced by more programs earning the AVCA Team Academic Award than ever before,” AVCA CEO Dr. Jaime Gordon said. “This is a great example of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their full potential as both students and athletes.”
