Mizzou Volleyball’s Deberg & Omazic Named 2020 Preseason All-SEC

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball senior OH Kylie Deberg and senior MB Tyanna Omazic were each named to the 2020 Preseason Volleyball All-Southeastern Conference Team, announced Thursday by the league office.

Thursday marks Deberg’s second consecutive Preseason All-SEC honor, while Omazic received her first career preseason recognition by the league office. Nine total student-athletes across the league were selected to this year’s squad.

Mizzou has been represented on the annual Preseason All-SEC list in each year since joining the SEC (2012-present). Thursday marks the fifth time there has been multiple Tigers on the preseason list (2012, ’13, ’14, ’17, ’20).

Deberg and Omazic are both coming off stellar 2019 junior campaigns, as each earned American Volleyball Coaches Association Southeast All-Region honors. Additionally, Deberg later garnered AVCA Second-Team All-American distinction last December.

Deberg produced one of the finest campaigns in Mizzou history a year ago, highlighted by a program single-season record 524 kills and 4.72 kills per set. The Hudson, Iowa, native became only the second Tiger in program history with 600-plus points in a single season, joining Yvette Buhlig’s 626.0 points in 1992.

The talented Tiger outside hitter’s 5.52 points per set also ranked second in Mizzou single-season history, while her 49 aces finished tied for seventh.

Omazic emerged into one of the NCAA and SEC’s most efficient attackers in 2019, as her .386 overall hitting percentage ranked 28th nationally and fourth-best in the conference. The Kansas City native’s 283 kills, .386 hitting, 11 assists, 33 aces, 67 digs and 366.0 points all established new single-season career-highs.

The Tiger middle blocker finished her junior campaign with 16 double-digit kill performances, 10 of which came in SEC action. Omazic posted seven-plus kills on .400-plus hitting in 17-of-29 total matches played and seven-plus kills on .500-plus hitting 10 times.
