Mizzou Wins 5-3 in Series Finale Behind Two Late-Inning Homers

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Mizzou Baseball (8-12, 1-2 SEC) hit its way to its first conference win of the season with a 5-3 victory at Kentucky Proud Park on Sunday afternoon. Senior Lukas Veinbergs recorded the save for the Tigers with the winning run at the plate.

Down 3-0 going into the late innings, the Tigers got on the board in the seventh on a solo homer off the bat of junior Tre Morris, the first of his career. His effort was buoyed in the following frame when, with two outs, junior Cameron Swanger blasted a go-ahead three-run home run over the left-center field wall.

After freshman Zach Hise gave up three runs in his second start of the season, the Tiger bullpen locked down the Wildcats for the remainder of the game.

In his first appearance of 2021, senior Konnor Ash came in on the conveyor belt of relievers to throw a scoreless inning to put him in line for the win. He was followed by junior Jacob Kush and Veinbergs, who retired the final batter of the contest.
