COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women’s Basketball (1-1, 0-0 SEC) fell in a close game to No. 21/22 Missouri State (4-1, 0-0 MVC) on Monday evening at Mizzou Arena, by a score of 72-58.
After falling behind early, the Tigers managed to cut the Lady Bear’s lead to just five points to close out the third quarter. Redshirt junior LaDazhia Williams (Bradenton, Fla.) led the team with 15 points, scoring in double figures for the second consecutive game. Sophomore duo Hayley Frank (Stafford, Mo,) and Aijha Blackwell (Berkeley, Mo.) also scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
TURNING POINT
Hot from beyond the arc, Missouri State managed to jump out to an early lead over the Tigers, on top 20-10 after one quarter of play. Although down, Mizzou managed to keep the deficit within 10 points for majority of the second quarter. Following halftime, with a boost from Williams, The Tigers outscored the Lady Bears by eight, closing out the third quarter on a 12-2 run to cut the lead to just five points. However, Missouri State outscored Mizzou by nine in the final quarter of action, as the Tigers ultimately fell 72-58.
TOP TIGERS
- Williams tallied a team-high 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting. The redshirt junior forward also grabbed eight rebounds and recorded one block.
- Frank scored 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting, her second straight game in double figures. The sophomore also grabbed seven rebounds, three on the offensive side of the ball.
- Blackwell scored 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting and recorded six rebounds.
NOTES
- With 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting, Williams led the team in scoring for the first time in her collegiate career. She also scored in double figures for the second straight game.
- Williams also matched her career high with eight rebounds, marking just the seventh time in her career that she has pulled in five or more boards.
- With 12 points, Frank has scored in double figures for the second straight game and the 22nd time of her career.
- Redshirt junior guard Haley Troup (Gadsden, Ala.) dished out three assists in the game, the second straight game she has recorded three or more assists.
- With four assists, redshirt senior guard Shug Dickson (St. Louis, Mo.) has now recorded three or more assists in 12 games over her career.
- Blackwell’s 10 points mark her second consecutive game in double figures and the 26th game of her career scoring 10 or more points.

Mizzou remains home for its next contest, as the Tigers host New Orleans on Wednesday, Dec. 16. The game is set to tip at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on SEC Network +.
