Former New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez and his fiance, pop star Jennifer Lopez, are working with JPMorgan Chase to raise capital in an attempt to buy the NY Mets.
Rodriguez and Lopez reportedly have a combined net worth of about $700 million. They would represent the first serious known bidders after Steve Cohen’s $2.6 billion attempt to buy the Mets from the Wilpons fell through in February.
Cohen’s bid fell apart after current Mets owners (the Wilpons) attempted to change the terms of the deal, desiring control of the team for longer than five years, and control of their SNY network beyond the expiration of its 20-year rights deal.

Variety says that any potential sale of the Mets to a group led by Rodriguez and Lopez would not include conditions like the ones attached to Cohen’s failed deal.
