The Chicago Cubs have acquired All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes from the Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa will receive Christopher Morel and pitching prospects Hunter Bigge and Ty Johnson.

Paredes played in Tampa’s win over the Cincinnati Reds earlier in the day Sunday and went 0 for 2 with a walk. The 25-year-old is hitting .245 with 16 home runs this season, despite being in a slump over the last month or so. He was the Rays’ All-Star representative earlier this month. This is a long-term addition for Chicago — Paredes will remain under team control as an arbitration-eligible player through 2027.

Paredes broke into the big leagues with Detroit and went up and down from 2020-21. He was traded to the Rays with a competitive balance draft pick for Austin Meadows just before Opening Day 2022. With Tampa, Paredes broke out when they got him to focus on pulling the ball. He is the game’s most extreme pulled fly-ball hitter (minimum 200 plate appearances):

The New York Yankees acquired outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins on Saturday.

The Marlins received three prospects in the deal: Triple-A catcher Agustin Ramírez and infielders Jared Serna and Abrahan Ramírez.

Signed as a shortstop out of the Bahamas, the versatile Chisholm primarily played second base in his first three major league seasons before transitioning to center field last season. Chisholm, however, has never appeared in more than 124 games in a season as various injuries have hampered his career. A stress fracture in his lower back limited him to 60 games in his 2022 All-Star campaign and he played in 97 games last season, but he has appeared in 101 games this season. He is under team control through 2026.

Chisholm is batting .249 with 13 home runs and a .730 OPS this season.

The San Diego Padres acquired right-handed reliever Jason Adam from the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.

In exchange for Adam, the Rays received right-hander Dylan Lesko, center fielder Homer Bush Jr. and catcher J.D. Gonzalez.

Tampa Bay signed Adam toward the end of spring training in 2022 after parts of four unremarkable seasons with the Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs. He blossomed in his first year with the Rays, posting a 1.56 ERA in 63⅓ innings, and has continued with sub-3.00 ERAs in each of the next two seasons.

In 47 innings this season, Adam has a 2.49 ERA and has struck out 50 while walking 16.
