The Los Angeles Dodgers’ 6-game win over the Tampa Bay Rays received an average television rating 32% below the previous World Series low in 2012.
The 6 games on Fox averaged a 5.2 rating, 12 share and 9,785,000 viewers. The previous low was a 7.6 rating, 12 share and 12,660,000 viewers for the San Francisco Giants’ 4-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers in 2012.
Sports ratings have suffered, possibly due to the coronavirus pandemic.
There has also been more head-to-head matchup between leagues after the NBA and NHL seasons were interrupted by the pandemic and they finished in October.
President Donald Trump previously claimed that falling ratings for sports broadcasts were due to players protesting racism during the national anthem.
Although some MLB players and managers demonstrated earlier in the season, there were no protests during the national anthem in the 2020 World Series.
