NFL Star Richard Sherman Taken Down By K9, Arrested for Domestic Violence Burglary

NFL star Richard Sherman was denied bail yesterday after a late-night arrest on suspicion of domestic violence burglary.

Police in the Seattle suburb of Redmond say the 33-year-old free-agent cornerback was arrested after they received a 911 call around 2am from Sherman’s in-laws saying he was trying to force his way into their home.

Police say Sherman fought with officers so hard that he had to be taken down by a K-9.

Police say Sherman never gained entry to the home, but he had a “verbal altercation” with the residents.

About an hour before that altercation, Sherman crashed his car into a barrier on the highway. Police believe he drove the smashed-up car, popped tires and all, to a parking lot and ditched the vehicle.

He’s being investigated for DUI and hit-and-run charges due to the crash.

Sherman, a former Seattle Seahawk, finished his third season with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020. He is also a vice president of the NFL Players Association.

9-1-1 Call: Threatened To KILL Himself

According to a 9-1-1 call from Sherman’s wife, Ashley Moss, Richard Sherman threatened to hang himself.

A woman saying she was Moss told the emergency operator that no weapons were involved, but Sherman “was being aggressive” with her uncle after drinking “two bottles” of hard alcohol. He was “threatening to kill himself … and sent text messages to people saying he is going to hang himself.” She is heard pleading with him not to drive off, to no avail.

Sherman was denied bail, as reportedly is common practice in Washington before a person accused of a domestic-violence crime appears in front of a judge. His initial hearing is set for today, at which point charges will be formalized.

Moss, the mother of Sherman’s two children later said, “At this time we’re going to make no statements, except he didn’t harm anybody. My kids were not harmed in the incident. He’s a good person and this is not his character. We’re doing all right, just trying to get him out. I want people to know no one was injured.”
