COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 18/20 Mizzou Softball (20-6, 1-2) will take on Western Illinois (9-11) in a doubleheader on Wednesday, beginning at 3:00 pm CT. The second game will begin 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game. Mizzou leads the all-time series 36-4.
Last week, the Tigers fell in a series to No. 19/20 Georgia. Mizzou took the first game by a score of 6-1 and came up short in comeback efforts on Saturday and Sunday.
Freshman shortstop Jenna Laird currently leads all SEC freshman with a .427 batting average, which is good enough for seventh in the SEC. She was named SEC Freshman of the Week for her performance in the Mizzou Tournament.
Kimberly Wert is currently tied for second in the SEC with 10 home runs. Wert recently moved into a tie for seventh on the Mizzou home run list with 32 home runs. Wert also smashed five home runs during her freshman season at Hofstra, bringing her career total to 37.
Brooke Wilmes is having another strong campaign for the Tigers. She is batting .414, leading the team with 36 hits, 28 runs scored and eight stolen bases.
