No. 23/24 Mizzou Softball Heads to Florida State for JoAnne Graf Classic

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou Softball team heads to Tallahassee, Florida, where they will face off with Florida State and Memphis in a five-game tournament.

The Tigers were initially scheduled to open the weekend with Florida A&M, however the Rattlers dropped out of the tournament due to COVID-19 issues.

Mizzou will open the tournament on Friday with Memphis, followed by an afternoon showdown with No. 12 Florida State. Mizzou last saw Memphis in the 2007 season, where the teams played two games, both won by Memphis. The last time the Tigers faced off with the Seminoles was the 2005 season. Each of the two games were played in Tallahassee while Mizzou was ranked in the top-10.

Saturday, the Tigers will again face off with each team once and then close out the weekend with an early-morning game against Memphis.

Friday will represent the Tigers’ first game in over 11 months. Mizzou was off to a strong start in the 2020 season before it was cut short due to COVID-19, jumping out to a 19-7 overall record and going 3-0 in SEC play.

Head Coach Larissa Anderson is 14-2 as the head coach of the Mizzou Tigers in games played in the state of Florida. Mizzou began the 2020 season with a nine-game winning streak where each of those games were played in Florida.

The Tigers bring back some star power to the lineup in Cayla Kessinger, Brooke Wilmes and Jazmyn Rollin, among others. The veteran players posted strong numbers at the plate in the shortened season, each with an OPS of at least 1.074.

In the circle, Emma Nichols, Megan Schumacher and Jordan Weber each return from very strong freshman seasons. The sophomore trio each started at least eight games on the season, while combining for a 13-6 record.
