Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to drive in the Cardinals’ only run. Adam Wainwright was charged with his tenth loss despite giving up just one run in six innings.
The Cardinals had an opportunity to blow the game open but stranded the bases loaded in the fourth inning when Andrew Knizer and Jordan Walker both struck out after San Diego starter Blake Snell had walked two to load the bases.
St. Louis remains in last place in the NL Central at 56-and-76. Zack Thompson starts for the Cards against San Diego tonight.
>>Nootbaar, Helsley Returning Soon
