The West Plains Zizzers traveled for two meets this week. On Tuesday, the Lady Zizzers swim team traveled to Poplar Bluff. West Plains beat Farmington and Liberty but fell to Poplar Bluff. Evie Niesen had a first-place finish in the 200 Freestyle and earned a state qualifying time. Senior Afton Morrison dropped 20 seconds in the 200 IM, which Coach Ryan Smith said was a meet highlight. The Zizzer’s dual meet record is now 17-3.
The Zizzers were off to an early start traveling to Cape Girardeau for the City of Roses swim meet on Saturday. The Lady Zizzers finished 10th of 28 teams from around the state, including St. Louis and Columbia. Four school records were broken, including the 200 Medley Relay (Paige Sheridan, Evie Niesen, Brayden Kantola, Addie Peugh), 100 Breaststroke (Niesen), 200 IM (Sheridan), and 100 Backstroke (Sheridan).
The Swim of the Meet goes to Evie Niesen and Addie Peugh for breaking the six-minute barrier in the 500 Freestyle and earning state qualifying times. This is Peugh’s first individual state qualifying time. In February the top 32 swimmers per event qualify for the State competition in St. Peters, Missouri
