Pritchett and Adams Named Dr. David Stair and Sandra Sorbo Student-Athletes of the Year

Evangel University Department of Athletics announced the 2023 Dr. David Stair and Sandra Sorbo Student-Athletes of the Year for the 2022-23 year as Josh Pritchett and Skylar Adams were named as the winners.

Dr. Stair and Sandra Sorbo are former Evangel Athletic Directors who were advocates for all student-athletes and expected excellence from all who participated wearing the Evangel uniform. They had great respect for those who were exceptional performers in the classroom and in competition, and exemplified strong Christian leadership and sportsmanship.

The two student-athletes will be honored during Homecoming Weekend at the Hall of Fame Banquet on October 20th.

Pritchett helped guide the Evangel Men’s Basketball team to their second consecutive NAIA Tournament appearance, the first time going back to back since 2012-13/2013-14, and was named as the Heart of America Conference Player of the Year.

The Rolla, Missouri, native was also a first-team All-Heart selection and was named to the Debo Francis Top 100 Players in small college basketball in the 22-23 season. Pritchett finished the season averaging 18.8 points per game, leading the Valor, and 3.4 rebounds per game. Currently in his career at Evangel, Pritchett ranks 14th all-time in scoring with 1,555 points, tenth in three-pointers made with 175, and fourth in total assists with 402 and steals with 177.

In the classroom, Pritchett made the Dean’s List, being named as an NAIA Scholar Athlete and CSC Academic All-District member. In the local community, Pritchett serves on the Connections team at North Point Church and has also served local schools, reading books to Disney Elementary students and volunteering at a Reed Middle School basketball practice.

Adams qualified for the NAIA Cross Country National Championship in her sophomore season, the first female athlete to qualify for XC Nationals since Leslie Perona in 2019, and ran in the 4×800 meter relay at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships this season. Adams currently holds two individual records at Evangel (Indoor Mile and Outdoor 1500m) as well as three team records (4×800 for Outdoor and Indoor, Distance Medley relay).

Adams, the Mansfield, Missouri native, finished with a 4.0 GPA in 22-23, being named as an NAIA Scholar Athlete in both Cross Country and Track and Field. Adams has participated in several community service events including packing lunches for kids at Life 360, cleaning local parks and trails, and several other team events throughout the year.
