White Sox 9, Royals 2
Jose Abreu and Gavin Sheets homered as the White Sox hammered the Royals 9-2 in Chicago. Eloy Jimenez went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs. Lucas Giolito gave up just two runs over five innings to pick up the win. Chicago is 52-and-51. Salvador Perez and Hunter Dozier drove in runs for the Royals. Brad Keller allowed 13 hits and eight runs to take the loss for Kansas City. The Royals are 41-and-63.
The Royals are moving on from their second baseman. Whit Merrifield was traded to the Blue Jays yesterday just minutes before the deadline. The Royals received 24-year-old Samad Taylor and 23-year-old Max Castillo in the deal. Taylor is hitting .258 with Triple-A Buffalo this season along with 23 stolen bases while Castillo had a 3.05 E-R-A in nine appearances for the Jays. Merrifield will need to get vaccinated in order to play in Toronto.
