Royals fire Mike Matheny

The Kansas City Royals gave up four first-inning runs during their season-ending 9-2 loss to the Guardians at Progressive Field. Vinnie Pasquantino and Kyle Isbel went deep for the Royals, and Jonathan Heasley was charged with his tenth loss after surrendering six runs in five innings. Kansas City ends the season as the fifth-place team in the AL Central with a 65-and-97 record.

“The Kansas City Royals fired manager Mike Matheny and pitching coach Cal Eldred after the Royals’ season-ending loss to Cleveland on Wednesday. Matheny took over the Royals in 2020, but the team never finished better than fourth in the AL Central. Kansas City finished in fifth-place in the AL Central this year with a record of 65-and-97.”
