Royals lock up franchise player Bobby Witt Jr to longterm contract

The Royals are signing shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. to an 11-year, 288.8-million dollar contract extension with a three-year option on the back end for the club. Witt can opt-out any time after the seventh year. The 23-year-old will start his third major league. As a rookie, he hit 20 homers and stole 30 bases. Last year he hit 30 homers and stole 49 bases becoming the first Royals player and seventh in major league history to go 30-and-30. The deal guarantees Witt more than all but 15 players in baseball history.
