Royals sweep the Cardinals

The Royals picked up two wins against the Cardinals in a doubleheader at Busch Stadium. In game one, Salvador Perez hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the sixth, leading to a 6-4 victory. Alec Marsh struck out eight and gave up three runs over six innings to earn his seventh win. St. Louis initially led 3-0 but gave up three runs in the fifth and the decisive run in the sixth. Nolan Arenado, Alec Burleson, and Paul Goldschmidt homered for the Cardinals, while Andre Pallante took his fourth loss.

In game two, the Royals hit three home runs in an 8-5 win. Perez, MJ Melendez, and Kyle Isbel all went deep, and Michael Wacha earned his sixth win, pitching in St. Louis for the first time since leaving the team in 2020. Lars Nootbaar homered for the Cardinals, and Gordon Graceffo took his first loss after allowing three runs on four hits in three and a third innings.

Kansas City is now on a three-game winning streak and sits third in the AL Central with a 51-43 record. They visit the Boston Red Sox tomorrow night. The Cardinals have lost three of their last five games and are second in the NL Central with a 48-44 record. St. Louis hosts the Cubs tomorrow night.
