Ryan Newman ‘Awake’ Day After Major Car Crash At Daytona 500

NASCAR driver Ryan Newman is “awake” at a hospital in Daytona Beach… one day after a fiery crash at the Daytona 500 on Monday.  

The update from Roush Fenway Racing yesterday (Tuesday) was the first since an initial update on Monday night which said that Newman was in serious condition and did not have life-threatening injuries.

The statement indicated that he is able to speak with doctors and his family.

It also said “Ryan and his family have expressed their appreciation for the concern and heartfelt messages from across the country.”

NASCAR driver Ryan Newman and his wife, Krissie Newman, announced their split just four days before he was seriously injured in a fiery wreck at the Daytona 500.

Newman had tweeted, “After 16 years of marriage, Krissie and I have decided to amicably separate.”

He added,  “We will continue to jointly raise our girls, while remaining friends…”

The two got married in January 2004 and have two young daughters together.
