Conner Lair West Plains senior won the News-Leader’s high school football player of the year vote. He’s coming off a season in which he shined on both sides of the ball while leading the Zizzers to a state quarterfinal appearance. The now Missouri State Bear was a monster offensively and defensively. Conner carried the ball 87 times for 720 yards and 20 touchdowns this past season. He also caught 22 passes for 539 yards and seven scores.
Cole Talley kicked a 41-yard field goal on the last play of the game to give the Army West Point Black Knights a 24-22 victory over the Missouri Tigers in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl.
In just his fourth collegiate game, freshman Trevon Brazile had a career night against a tough Illinois squad last night in the McBride Homes Braggin’ Rights game. The Tigers dropped the contest 88-63 against Illinois who now moves to 9-3 on the season. Mizzou will turn its focus to SEC play as the Tigers open up league action, Dec. 29 against #20 Kentucky. Tip off from Lexington is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Q94.
Josh Gordon has had minimal impact since joining the Kansas City Chiefs two months ago. The veteran wide receiver has eight targets with four catches for 27 yards and a touchdown in nine games since returning to the NFL after a one-season absence. Gordon might play a much bigger role Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Arrowhead Stadium if Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill aren’t available. The two are among 11 players on the reserve/COVID-19 list for the Chiefs and did not practice Wednesday. KC host Pittsburg Sunday at 325 pm on CBS.
