Tigers Defeat SEMO to Remain Unbeaten

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri men’s basketball team maintained their undefeated record with a 96-89 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Sunday in front of 8,873 fans at Mizzou Arena. This win brings Mizzou’s record up to 9-0, while the Redhawks drops to 5-4.

Graduate students D’Moi Hodge and Nick Honor rounded out the double-digit performances with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Mizzou started the game strong and raced to a 14-point lead, 34-20, with just under seven minutes remaining in the first. However, in a game of runs, SEMO responded with a 17-3 stretch to pull in front by a point, 40-39 with two minutes left in the half. The Tigers, though, would have one final run in them as East (four points) and then Brown (seven points) scored the final 11 points of the first half to give the hosts a 50-40 advantage at the break.

The Tigers would carry their momentum into the second stanza and an early 12-1 spurt put Mizzou in front by 18, 65-47. The lead would reach as many as 19 points, 82-63, only for SEMO to make one final push and cut the deficit down to six, 93-87. MU, however, would not allow the visitors to get any closer, securing their ninth-straight win with a 96-89 victory.

Missouri shot 56 percent in the winning effort with a 11-of-27 clip (41 percent) from 3-point range.
