Tigers Drop Series Opener to Kentucky

COLUMBIA, Mo. – A pair of five-run innings led Kentucky to a 15-6 win over Missouri baseball in the series opener on Thursday night at Taylor Stadium.

Kentucky (21-13, 5-8 SEC) picked up 22 hits on a night where everything seemed to fall for the Wildcats. Chase Estep hit two home runs in a five-RBI performance. Daniel Harris IV added four RBI to the Wildcats’ effort.

Torin Montgomery led Mizzou (19-12, 3-10 SEC) at the plate with a 2-for-4 night and four RBI. The first baseman launched a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to give the Tigers a lead which held until the fourth.

Spencer Miles (2-3) took the loss in the start. The right-hander allowed eight runs in five innings.

IMPACT INNING

Trailing 3-2, Kentucky scored five in the top of the fourth to seize control. Estep lifted his first homer to start the inning. Four more Wildcat hits and an error would lead to the 7-3 edge.

  • Mike Coletta extended his hitting streak to four games with an RBI single in the ninth.
  • Montgomery’s four-RBI game is his team-leading seventh multi-RBI game of the season.
  • Fox Leum launched his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth inning.
