COLUMBIA, Mo. — As the University of Missouri men’s basketball team recognized senior Javon Pickett for his outstanding career, the Tigers came away with a victory in its final home game of the 2021-22 season. Mizzou took down Georgia, 79-69, on 65 percent shooting in the second half.
Kobe Brown led the way for Mizzou, despite battling foul trouble nearly the entire game. Brown finished with a game-high 21 points and shot 8-of-11 from the floor, missing just one shot inside the three-point line. Pickett, Jarron Coleman and Ronnie DeGray III all contributed 12 points to join Brown in double-figures. All 12 of Pickett’s points and 10 of Coleman’s 12 came in the second half.
Amari Davis and Trevon Brazile rounded out the scoring efforts, contributing nine and eight, respectively. Brazile had a career night and near miss for his first career double-double, finishing with a personal-best 10 rebounds. The freshman also recorded four blocks, to total 43 on the season.
TURNING POINT
After a quick start by Georgia, and being down nine points at half, Mizzou slowly chipped away in the second to wear down the Bulldogs. Down three, a fastbreak layup by Amari Davis launched the Tigers on a 15-2 run and gave Mizzou its first lead of the game, 60-52. Georgia would find its way back within five on seven made free throws, but the Tigers proved to be too much down the stretch sinking its final free throws.
