COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Volleyball Head Coach Dawn Sullivan announced Tuesday the promotion of Wendel Camargo to Associate Head Coach.
“Wendel has done an excellent job in developing talent,” Sullivan said of Camargo’s elevation. “He is a hard worker with great energy and has built strong relationships with our players. Excited for the future of this program.”
In Camargo’s first season, Mizzou posted an impressive 18-13 mark including a .500 (9-9) record in SEC play with Sullivan earning 2023 SEC Coach of the Year.
Three Tigers earned All-SEC honors, while two received 2023 AVCA Southeast All-Region recognition as Missouri made its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2020.
Maya Sands was named the 2023 SEC Libero of the Year and selected to the All-SEC Team. Right side hitter Jordan Iliff was tabbed to the All-SEC team and setter Sierra Dudley was featured on the seven-member SEC All-Freshman Team.
Camargo was initially hired as the Tigers’ Recruiting Coordinator in February 2023. In this role, he has been instrumental in Mizzou’s recruiting efforts and has helped bring in 22 players over the past two seasons.
Camargo also has worked primarily with the Mizzou setters and helped Dudley transition to the collegiate game en route to SEC All-Freshman laurels. Dudley was the top true freshman SEC setter in 2023 (1161 assists, 10.27 assists/set) and became the first Tiger to reach 1,000 assists in a season since Andrea Fuentes in 2019.
Camargo came to Missouri after spending five seasons as an assistant coach at Texas A&M. He has also coached at James Madison, Kansas, and internationally with the Dominican Republic.
