William Byron wins Daytona 500

William Byron took home the checkered flag in a wet, sloppy Daytona 500. The driver of the Number-24 car surged from the ninth spot and held off Tyler Reddick on the final lap of overtime following a multi-car wreck. He became the first driver to win back-to-back Daytona 500s since Denny Hamlin in 2019. Jimmie Johnson, Chase Briscoe, and John Hunter Nemechek rounded out the top five finishers. The race was held under the lights after being delayed for more than three-and-a-half hours for two rain stoppages. The NASCAR Cup Series continues when the field rolls into Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Ambetter Health 400 next Sunday.
