Women’s Basketball Opens Pink Flamingo Championship Against Wake Forest

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Women’s Basketball will face Wake Forest in the first matchup of the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship at 4:30 p.m. CT Monday in Nassau, Bahamas. The contest will air live on FloHoops and KTGR.

Missouri enters the contest with a perfect 5-0 record following a win over UT Martin on Thursday. The victory marked the first time the Tigers have notched five-game win streaks to open back-to-back seasons in program history.

For the second time this season, Missouri had four players score in double-figures.

Junior Sara-Rose Smith led Missouri against the Skyhawks with 12 points and 12 rebounds. With the statline, Smith earned her third double-double on the young season. She entered the year without having not yet accomplished the feat in her career.

Senior Hayley Frank posted a team-high 15 points, including an 11-point effort following the halftime break.

Freshman Ashton Judd continued to contribute sizably in her early collegiate action. Judd scored 11 points and ranks third on the team with 9.0 points per game.

The Tigers have gotten out to several hot starts this season and are currently outscoring opponents 82-55 in the opening ten minutes.

Monday will mark the third meeting between the Tigers and Demon Deacons, Missouri leads the all-time series 2-0 with one of the victories coming at Mizzou Arena.

In the last matchup between the programs in 2015, Tigers’ freshman Sophie Cunningham scored a program-record 42 points to lead Missouri to victory.

The ACC foe is 3-1 on the season with a loss at Virginia and victories over Elon, East Carolina and Mercer.

Wake Forest is led by first-year head coach Megan Gebbia who spent the prior nine seasons at American University.

The Demon Deacons roster is headlined by junior guard Jewel Spear who is averaging 16.3 points and 4.5 rebounds.
