Women’s Basketball Opens SEC Play Against No. 2 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri women’s basketball opens Southeastern Conference play at 6 p.m. on Thursday against No. 2 South Carolina. The contest will air on SEC Network.

Missouri (11-4, 0-0 SEC) finished the nonconference schedule with a win over Jackson State on Sunday to match its season win total from a year ago.

Sophomore guard Grace Slaughter led the Tigers and matched a career-high with 22 points on Sunday. The output is her fourth outing of 20 or more points this season.

Senior forward ??Laniah Randle contributed 11 points against Jackson State and crossed the 1,000th point mark for her career.

Sophomore guard Abbey Schreacke is second in the SEC and is tied for 14th nationally with 38 3-pointers this season. Schreacke also ranks seventh in the SEC in 3-point percentage (38.8).

As a team, the Tigers lead the SEC and are seventh nationally in 3-point percentage at 39.1 percent.

Making a big impact off the bench, graduate guard De’Myla Brown has averaged 13.0 points over the last three games.

Redshirt sophomore guard Averi Kroenke ranks fourth in the SEC and 12th in the country with a 3.12 assist-to-turnover ratio.

In the classroom, Missouri earned a 3.35 GPA during the 2024 Fall semester with eight Tigers recording above  3.5 and four with 4.0.

South Carolina enters Thursday at 12-1 with the only loss coming to No. 5 UCLA on Nov. 24.

The defending national champions finished last season 38-0.

Prior to the loss against UCLA, Missouri was the last team to earn a regular-season win over the Gamecocks on Dec. 30, 2020.

South Carolina is coached by Dawn Staley who is in her 17th year with the program and has amassed 624 wins.

The Gamecocks are led by Te-Hina Paopao who averages 11.4 points per game. Joyce Edwards and MiLaysia Fulwiley contribute, 11.0 and 10.1 points per game respectively.

Thursday will mark the 16th meeting between the teams as South Carolina leads the series 11-4.

Missouri holds a 4-3 advantage in matchups held in Mizzou Arena.

Since 2016-17, Missouri is tied for the second most wins over South Carolina with three.
