Women’s Basketball Opens the Season with Murray State tonight.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women’s Basketball will return to Mizzou Arena on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. to take on Murray State in the first regular season game of the season. The Tigers won each of their exhibition contests against Lindenwood and Southwest Baptist. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network plus with Jordan Roundtree and Nate Gatter on the call.

Junior stars Aijha Blackwell and Hayley Frank were standouts for the Tigers in each game. Both players posted double figures in each contest. Blackwell led the way for the Tigers on the offensive and defensive end against Southwest Baptist. She finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds to secure a double-double while picking up six steals on the defensive end.

Frank has been lethal from three for the Tigers over the two exhibition games. She has gone 8-for-11 in the two contests while averaging 17.5 points per game. The sharpshooter finished the 2020-21 season shooting 45.1 percent from three and 87.0 percent from the free throw line.

True freshman Izzy Higginbottom has been in double figures for the Tigers in each game so far, dropping 13 and 16 points in each contest, respectively. Redshirt Senior LaDazhia Williams finished in double figures with 13 points on an efficient 6-for-8 effort from the field.

The Tigers are 5-0 against Murray State all-time, though the programs have not met since 2012-13. Each meeting has been in Columbia.
