Women’s Soccer to Host SIU Wednesday in Season Finale

PRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women’s soccer team (3-7-2, 1-4-1 MVC) will conclude its season Wednesday by hosting Southern Illinois for a 5 p.m. tilt at Allison South Stadium.

  • MSU picked up its first Missouri Valley Conference win of the season back on March 31 when Sierra Fury’s 52nd minute goal lifted the Bears to a 1-0 victory over Drake. The goal was Fury’s first of her collegiate career and the Bears’ eighth this season. Two-time MVC goalkeeper of the year Kaitlin Maxwell picked up her first clean sheet of the season while making two saves. Her 242 career saves rank fourth all-time as well as her 11 career shutouts and 4,669 minutes in goal.
  • The Bears are third in The Valley in penalty kicks made with two.
  • Missouri State ranks third in The Valley in corner kicks per game with 56 through twelve contests.
  • MSU ranks 89th in shot accuracy putting 49.6 percent of its shot attempts on goal.
  • The Bears have played four overtime games this year and are 0-2-2 when going into extra time.
  • Senior Emma Skornia has not missed a single match in her MSU career, appearing in all 69 contests while totaling six points on two assists and two goals.
  • The MSU goalkeepers have combined to rank 44th nationally and third in the MVC averaging 5.75 saves per contest.
  • Anna Durnin, Sierra Fury, Abby Couch, Kate Schroeder, Maddie Augustine, Dragana AndonovskiIngrid Perkins, Kennady Orlick, and Isabel Burke, all lead the team in goals at one apiece.
  • The Bears were the only team in the Missouri Valley Conference to play matches this fall.
  • Due to injuries, the Bears have started three different goalies this season while all four goalies have seen action.
  • Of MSU’s 28 players, 16 are freshmen or sophomores, making them one of the youngest teams in The Valley.
  • Missouri State is in its 25th season of women’s soccer with a 218-200-56 (.519) all-time record. Rob Brewer is the only head coach in the program’s history and has guided the Bears to two NCAA Tournament appearances (2000, 2017).

The Last Dance

  • This will be the final appearance at Allison South Stadium for seniors, Lexi Palacio, Kaitlin Maxwell, Bryn McQuaid and Emma Skornia.
  • The senior class has a four-year record of 32-29-8 including an MVC Conference Tournament Championship and NCAA tournament appearance in 2017.

Know the Foe

  • Southern Illinois is 0-5-3 overall this season and 0-4-3 in MVC play.
  • Last time out they were shutout by Illinois State, 3-0 back on April 3.
  • SIU has yet to score a goal this season while allowing 18.
  • This is just the Salukis second season of women’s soccer and first season competing in the MVC. SIU went 5-10-2 in 2019 while competing as an independent.
  • Goalkeeper Maddy Alaluf ranks third in The Valley in saves per-game with 4.43 saves per contest and 41 saves on the season.
  • Southern Illinois is led by coach Grant Williams, who is in his second season at the helm and has an overall record of 5-15-5. He is 0-7-3 in road matches.

Series History

  • This is the inaugural meeting between the two programs.
