The West Plains Zizzer Boys Basketball team traveled to Webb City for the First round of Class 5, District 6 round play on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025. Facing the Parkview Vikings who beat them in a blowout game back on January 24th at home, 82-48.
While the Zizzers performed much better in this game; They end their season and fall to the Vikings by a score of 66-54.
1st Quarter: Tip controlled by the West Plains Zizzers and the first three points by Senior, Clayton Robbins. The Parkview Vikings get several tries for a three, all attempted by Senior, Elias Goven who eventually gets an attempt to shoot two. Taken back by Josiah Long for the Zizzers as they enjoy an early 5-3 lead. This changes as Goven eventually makes two more easy buckets and it’s now a 7-5 game on the Parkview Vikings. Make it 13-5 as Goven goes on to have seven of these points. This follows several more blocked shots for the Zizzers.
2nd Quarter: Two pointer good by Jared Kraft for the Zizzers, but a three to follow by Ethan Ferndandez for the Vikings. Zizzers are not blocking or Govan period and this has now put the Vikings up by as many as 18. Finally after another two free throws by Govan, a three pointer by Josiah Long cuts the Viking lead down to at least seven. Two more buckets to follow for the Vikings; one by Ethan Ferndandez and the next by Carlitos Sanchez. Tough baseline shot made as the Zizzers take it back by Jacob Moore. A strong shot follows by Josiah Long who takes the ball to the basket as several Viking defenders try to block him. Unfortunately does not make the 1-1 from the line.
HALFTIME- Parkview Vikings: 27/ West Plains Zizzers: 18
3rd Quarter: Several more blocked passes by the Vikings, but as we reach the four minute mark; Zizzers come within ten after several good looks by Josiah Long and Ethan Tuma. Clayton Robbins also banks in his eighth point of the Quarter. While several more buckets are scored by Fernandez and Govan for the vikings, Zizzers are having some better luck holding them off. Khayse Highley takes in two more free throws after a foul on Jared Kraft.
4th Quarter: Zizzers begin to pick up a little more rhythm as now Clayton Robbins shot all three pointers in the Second Half as they trail 47-32 to the Vikings. Three pointer, good by Jared Kraft puts the Zizzers down by nine: still trending up with 4:20 to go. Jacob Moore continues to cut into the lead with another baseline jumper, now 50-43.
Vikings are still able to make several more shots to hold the Zizzers to as many as Twelve; At least five more by Govan. Senior, Carlitos Sanchez goes on to out-do this as he goes on to be the leading scorer for the Vikings with 23 points
FINAL SCORE- Parkview Vikings: 66/ West Plains Zizzers: 54
