Zizzers add new football and softball coaches

For the 2022-2023 school year, Joel Wyatt has been named the head coach for the West Plains High School football team. Wyatt replaces the current head coach, Matt Perkins, who was recently hired as the head football coach at Columbia Rock Bridge. Wyatt is currently the Willow Springs School District head football coach. Wyatt also served as the head football coach at Kennett from 2017 to 2021 and at Malden High School from 2010 to 2017. In addition to coaching, he will be the West Plains High School weight room teacher.

“I am very excited to lead the Zizzer football program. Coach Ary and Coach Perkins have set the bar high. I’m hoping to carry on the standard that they have set and take it to new heights,” says Wyatt.

Mike Kenslow will lead the West Plains High School softball team as the new head coach into the fall 2022 season. Kenslow is an assistant coach for the West Plains High School baseball and softball programs and the South Fork Elementary P.E. teacher. Kenslow’s promotion comes following the softball head coach resignation of Amy Marshall, who served since 2018.

“Thank you to the West Plains school board and administration for the opportunity to lead the Lady Zizzer softball program. I have had the privilege of working with some excellent athletes alongside two great coaches for the past three years. We’ve shared a passion for the success of this program. As a Zizzer Alumni, I am honored to now lead the next level of talent and leave my contribution to the legacy of this Lady Zizzer Softball program,” says Kenslow.

“I’m excited about both of these two new head coaches. They both care about our students, are enthusiastic about this opportunity, and possess a high regard for education-based athletics. We are presently working with each coach to fill vacant assistant coaching positions to help balance out their staffs,” says Tammy Miller – District Activities Director.
