West Plains, MO. – The West Plains Zizzers played the Glendale Falcons in Springfield on Friday night and won a hard played game.
The first quarter showed how strong the defense of both teams were with the Falcons getting the only touchdown of the quarter but missed the two-point conversion. West Plains managed to take the lead in the second quarter only to have Glendale to respond with an excellent passing possession and score a touchdown, ending the first half with the Falcons leading the Zizzers 14 to 12.
The second half saw the Zizzers make a strong comeback but the Falcons were no slouches. Glendale made the first score of the quarter and the conversion, taking the score to 22-14. Following the punt return and the first play West Plains made, Glendale #72 received a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct after kneeing Zizzer #50 and punching at Zizzer #71. The Glendale player was benched by the coach after the flag. With 2:56 left in the third, a 75-yard interception by Zizzer #26, who had a cast on one arm, lead to a West Plains lead, ending the quarter 24 to 22.
The final quarter started with multiple flags and time outs by the officials that led to the Falcons gaining their only points of the quarter. West Plains scored a touchdown and extra point and, with seconds left in the game, intercepted the ball from the Falcons to win the game, 34 to 28.
The Zizzers next play at home on Thursday, September 8 and will take on the Hillcrest Hornets.
