The West Plains Zizzers took on the Hillcrest Hornets in Springfield for the Hillcrest Homecoming game.
The game begun well for West Plains, with an early field goal and a touchdown during the first quarter. The Hornets got close to the endzone but the Zizzer defense pushed them into attempting a field goal that was stolen by a quick West Plains player. The second quarter had the Zizzers grow their lead by 21 points with three successful unanswered touchdowns and a halftime score of 31 to 0.
The second half was much more even between the two teams in reguards to scoring. In the third quarter, the Zizzers scored a touchdown in the first five minutes and the Hornets scored their first touchdown of the game with 2:57 left in the quarter. Unfortunately, the Hillcrest two-point conversion attempt was no good. The fourth quarter had West Plains with their final touchdown of the game in the first minute of the quarter. As the clock continued to wind down, the Hillcrest Hornet quarterback managed to run in a touchdown with 2.7 seconds left on the clock. Again, the Hornet attempt for an extra point was no good after the ball bounced off of the goal post.
The West Plains Zizzers defeated the Hillcrest Hornets 45 to 12. West Plains will next play on September 15 at home against the Rolla Bulldogs in the Zizzer Homecoming game.
