Zizzers Defeated in State Class 4 Semifinals, 42-14

The West Plains Zizzers took on the St. Dominic Crusaders in O’Fallon, Missouri in the State Class 4 Semifinals on November 26, 2022. This was the first time since 1969 that the West Plains Zizzers football team made it this far in the post-season. 

The game opened with West Plains receiving and Carter McCracken ran a 54-yard touchdown in the first 16 seconds. The first possession of the Crusaders ended with a touchdown, tying the game at 7. St. Dominic players blocked a West Plains punt and returned the ball for a second touchdown, and the last score of the first quarter, leading the Zizzers, 14 to 7.

Early in the second quarter, Zizzer player Jesse Hudson goes down for an injury and walks off the field with a limp. The Crusaders followed the injury timeout with a 33-yard touchdown, taking the score 21 to 7. Zizzers’ Heston Miller scores their second touchdown on the following possession, 21-14. St. Dominic answer with a 54-yard touchdown of their own, ending the first half leading the Zizzers, 28 to 14.

The West Plains Zizzers start the second half kicking to the St. Dominic Crusaders. The Crusaders take their first possession of the second half all the way to the endzone, making the only touchdown of the third quarter, 35-14. 

The Crusaders make the first touchdown of the fourth quarter roughly seven minutes into the quarter, 42-14. St. Dominic controlled the rest of the quarter and defeated the West Plains Zizzers.

The West Plains Zizzers lose to the St. Dominic Crusaders, 42 to 14. The Zizzers had a great year and played a very tough game.
