Zizzers fall to Willard 77-68, will play Third place Tommorow

The West Plains Zizzer Boys Basketball Team played their Second game on Friday December 6th in the 2024 Willard Basketball Classic versus Willard, the Host team.. While the Zizzers started off strong, they were upset in the end by a final score of 77-68.

1st Quarter: Zizzers take an early 8-7 lead after two three pointers by Clayton Robbins who lead scoring in yesterday’s game. Willard answers back as Blake Doughtery shoots two three for the Willard Tigers and the Zizzer lead is short lived. Jared Kraft with five points after a Zizzer layup shoots the three. Midway through there are a few turnovers but a good recovery and another three by Robbins who is now in double figures. Robbins is also shutting down the Tigers who trail by 4. This changes as Carson Foster for the Willard Tigers ties it at 22. Three more for the Zizzers by Landon Montgomery. Zizzers end the Quarter with the lead.

2nd Quarter: A second three pointer for Landon Montgomery for the Zizzers, but Willard answers back as Doughtery for Willard also adds three. Zizzers so far have made eight turnovers as some more passes and scores by Braxton Boyer for the Tigers, Midway through the Quarter; Zizzers trail by four 29-25. Robbins shoots and scores on a layup and Tuma fouls Foster for Willard and makes 1-2 at the line. This brings Zizzers within two. Braxton Boyer shoots two more and Zizzers jumps out by four more. Zizzers still do not seem to be able to shut down Daughtery or Boyer who continue to lead scoring for The Willard Tigers.

HALFTIME- Willard Tigers: 41/ West Plains Zizzers: 37

3rd Quarter: Jumper by Robbins and the third three pointer of the night for Doughtery as Willard jumps out by three more. Another turnover by Willard as the ball goes loose and Montgomery gets it back for the Zizzers. Hands it off to Tuma who shoots and scores. Willard answers back as Boyer shoots and scores on an easy layup. Willard is now up by eleven, 50 to 39. Tuma shoots two more and Zizzers tries to rebound it but it is lost and picked up by Doughtery who scores on a layup, bringing it to 54-44. Over the next four or so minutes, Zizzers try to get a stop and Robbins is luckily able to score on a last minute before the Jumper. At the end of the Score is 58-47.

4th Quarter: Both teams seem to acquire a significant amount of fouls within the final quarter as Robbins is able to continue a streak of stops, but still not shutting down the main threat of Blake Daughtery for the Willard Tigers. Zizzers are able to outscore Willard by more in this quarter than the rest of the Game, a three by Robbins gives the Zizzers the push. Most of Daughtery’s plays were wide open and appeared to be unblocked. On top of Daughtery, Nahmy Kelly for the Tigers is able to make some plays and blocks. Kelly made a good three and a good trip to the line. Final Score- Willard Tigers: 77/ West Plains Zizzers: 68
