The West Plains Zizzers hosted the McDonald County Mustangs in the district semi-final game on November 3rd, 2023.
The entirety of the game was hard fought by these very similar teams. The first quarter started on the strange side with West Plains making the first touchdown after recovering a fumble by the Mustangs that had just recovered a fumble by the Zizzers. Notably, the Zizzers would miss the extra point and this would end up hurting the score in the long run. McDonald County would go on to make two more touchdowns only for the Zizzers to end the quarter with another touchdown of their own. In the second quarter, each team would score a touchdown a piece, ending the half with the Zizzers leading the Mustangs 27 to 21.
The third quarter was one of strong defensive plays from both teams but the Mustangs would make the only touchdown this quarter, taking the lead in points. In the fourth, both teams continued to play hard through the end of the game but, with each team making a touchdown of their own and the Zizzers failing to make a 2-point conversion attempt, the final score saw West Plains losing to McDonald County.
The West Plains Zizzers lost the district semi-final to the McDonald County Mustangs, 35 to 33.
