The Missouri State West Plains Grizzlies faced the #18 NJCAA ranked Northeastern Oklahoma Norsemen last Wednesday November 13th, 2024. Norsemen outscored the Grizzlies by a score of 76-68
1st Half– A series of turnovers by both teams. #1 Obou for the Norsemen shoots the first three pointer of the game. #15, Zaheem Jackson makes a good scoop shot for the Grizzlies. After some good play on defense, #12 Ergie Kougnami makes a good three for the Grizzlies giving them a 4-3 lead. #33, Lionel Kiumwimba for the Grizzlies is fouled; #0, Jimma James shoots a successful two free-throws for the Norsemen. After a block, both teams are tied at 4-4. A trip to the throw line by #12, Patric Prince for the Nosemen scores two more points. Norsemen pick up a blocking foul on the drive. This allows Zaheem Jackson to shoot two more points for the Grirzzlies. On the rebound, a good scoop shot by #14 Jayden Roach. So far, Grizzlies lead the Norsemen 9-6. A partial block as Javian Downey tries to score, but ball gets stolen away and a three is shot off the hands of #5, Damarion Van Kelly for the Norsemen. After the Grizzlies trade a few passes, Ergie Kougnami brings up a 14-11 lead on a jump shot. A three pointer by the Norsemen by #4 Buddy Hammer. Grizzly lead is now 15-14. Van-Kelly shoots two for the Norsemen. #20, Blayne Harris shoots three for the Grizzlies and makes two as this will bring up a 16-16 tie. #24, Chris Mason lays in a big one for the Norsemen which puts them out front by four points, score is now 20-16. #11, Javian Downey shoots two for the Grizzlies and makes both bringing them within two. Some more shots by the Norsemen. Grizzlies do however finally get Mason for the Norsemen to foul as #14, Jayden Roach shoots one and misses. Downey attempts a shot on rebound but is fouled. Currently NEO has five fouls while Grizzlies have six. #5, Van Kelly shoots at the throw line making four out of five. Norsemen now have the lead 31-19. An open three pointer by #10, Jake Sage. After the steal. #11, Javian Downey fouls on the Norsemen charge. #0, Jimma James fouls after shooting out of bounds. Javain Downey shoots two more for the Grizzlies as he goes to the bench & #3, Jonathan White comes in. And another three pointer by Jake Sage, but a foul on #20, Blayne Harris for the Grizzlies. #2, Ryan RIchardson. With 3:29 to go, Norsemen have the lead 35-29. #24, Mason shoots two for the Norsemen as the lead goes up to 41-29. Luckily #2, Riley Whitacker shoots a three pointer to end the Half which evens up the Halftime score 41-34.
2nd Half– #5, Shaun Glass with the first bucket of the Half and rebound by Obou for the Norsemen. #33, Kiumwimba stands guard for the Grizzlies. A jump shot by #4, Hammer for the Norsemen is good but makes his seventh foul of the night. Shaun Glass tries to shoot another three ball and misses but rebound by Blayne Harris who scores on the jumper. Layup by #2, Seth Fitzgerald for the Norsemen with his second bucket of the night. #1, Richardson for the Grizzlies is fouled and shoots one out of two. Grizzlies continue with at least 60% of made free throws throughout this game and all season games shot. Rebound by #1, Obou who shoots an open jumper. A three ball is good by #10, Jake Sage who scores after taking the ball back. Damarion Van-Kelly shoots a far side jumper for the Norsemen as they long to keep at least a ten point lead. A fourth three pointer by Jake Sage who continues to make the three-ball for the Grizzlies tonight. Another three ball by #5, Shaun Glass. Grizzlies now within ten but back to eleven as Obou for the Norsemen scores on a jumper. Some handoffs down the timeline and #24, Mason shoots a good two ball. #20 Blayne Harris shoots at the line after Mason fouls out for the Norsemen, Harris makes both of his free throws. Current score is 64-50 as the Norsemen still leads. Layup is up and down the middle by Obou, but foul on the play for NEO. As Hammer gets it back on rebound, Hammer shoots another dunk. Downey scores his thirteenth point of the Night for the Grizzlies on the rebound. Hammer continues to get easy dunks as the Grizzlies sort of begin to tire out on defense. Kiumwimba gets his hand on the ball on a heavy charge by the Norsemen, he fouls and goes to the line and scores two. Kiumwimba scores after a putback coming off the hands of the Norsemen. #20, Keyne Costa scores on a similar putback situation after the ball goes loose off of #14, Jayden Roach. Another three pointer by #5, Shaun Glass. Norsemen are now out to at least a sixteen point lead. #13, Jervais Scoree scores on a nice dunk for the Norsemen, stolen away by Hyson for the Grizzlies and a jumper by Shaun Glass. #3, Jonathan White goes to the line and shoots one out of two. Ball fumbled away but picked back up by the Grizzlies. Another three ball, the sixth by Shaun Glass. But to no avail; Norsemen win the game by a score of 76-68
